Frequently Asked Questions About Nochara
- What the heck is Nochara?
-
Nochara is actually quite a variety of things. First and foremost, it is a world setting, in the manner of the Land for the Stephen R. Donaldson series of books, or of Tolkien's books, or of hundreds of other authors. It is a place that I can allow my imagination to roam over some ideas that I've had for a long time.
- What makes Nochara different from those other places?
-
To answer that requires knowing the answer to another question: What question made me make this world? That question: How would society be different if the sun had gone out?
The obvious answer, of course, is that life would be dead. Either the sun went nova, wiping out the Earth, or the Earth is now freezing/frozen. In either case, society doesn't exist. I didn't much care for that answer, so I modified the question: How would society be different if the sun went out and, somehow, people survived? This begged the question: How did they survive?
I've always been into science fiction and fantasy. Fantasy has always been an easier draw for me than science fiction. How did they survive? Magic. Well, if magic kept them alive, their society probably was heavily influenced by magic. I now had an idea, and began running with it. Since then, in my own mind, I've developed quite a lot about Nochara, and I look forward to sharing it with you.
- What else is Nochara?
-
It's my answer to the question of how society might be different. There are a lot of changes that were done because I felt they made for a more interesting world (magic, other sentient races, etc). But the interactions, and the laws, those are my answers.
It's also a role playing game setting in the spirit of D&D. No, this is not Ravenloft. However, it is a scary place to be.
Welcome.
